What is Fucoxanthin?
Fucoxanthin is a brown pigment found in some species of seaweed. A carotenoid, like Astaxanthin, Fucoxanthin functions on a cellular level. It has a unique ability to promote thermogenin activity, or in simpler terms, burn fat! Each individual’s ability to burn fat is different and based on various factors like caloric intake, genetic predisposition, physical activity, etc.
As part of a weight management plan, Fucoxanthin can boost weight loss. Past studies (Hokkaido University, Japan) have shown that Fucoxanthin, increased basal metabolic rate (BMR) on average of 20%. Researchers have long investigated why some Asian communities have extended life, good health, and slender frames and their marine based diet could be an indicator. How does Fucoxanthin work?
As mentioned, Fucoxanthin promotes thermogenin activity. Working on a cellular level it helps metabolize body fat. Fucoxanthin does this naturally without causing the release of adrenaline. Thermogenin * (called uncoupling protein by its discoverers and now known as uncoupling protein 1, or UCP1) is an uncoupling protein found in the mitochondria of brown adipose tissue (BAT). It is used to generate heat by non-shivering thermo genesis. Non-shivering thermo genesis is the primary means of heat generation in hibernating mammals and in human infants.
